Complete Skin Journey Program aftercare plan in Hartford CT

The number one rule right after your Complete Skin Journey Program is simple: keep your skin calm and protected. Cleanse gently, moisturize, skip actives (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, strong vitamin C) for 3 to 7 days, and wear SPF every single morning. I run this program as a 3-month, guided routine reset with check-ins, so your aftercare is not guesswork. And in Hartford, with New England weather flipping fast, barrier care matters even more than you think.

First 24 to 48 hours: protect the glow, don’t “test” your skin

Most post-facial irritation is not from what I do. It’s from what happens after. The first two days are where you lock in comfort and avoid surprise sensitivity.

Do this for 24 to 48 hours: gentle cleanse, soothing moisturizer, and SPF 30+ in the morning. Keep showers lukewarm, keep hands off your face, and keep everything clean (pillowcase, phone, makeup brushes).

Workouts, hot yoga, sauna, steam, hot showers

I generally recommend skipping heavy exercise and anything heat-heavy for 24 to 48 hours. That means no hot yoga, no sauna, no steam room, and no long hot showers. Sweat plus heat can turn a calm face into a flushed, reactive one. If you want to move your body, take it easy. A relaxed walk along the Riverfront in Downtown Hartford is perfect. You’ll get the mental reset without pushing heat and sweat into your skin.

Makeup (and why I’m picky about it)

If you can, go makeup-free for the rest of the day after your appointment, and ideally for the next day too. Freshly treated skin can be a little more open to irritation, and makeup plus brushes plus a long day can be a lot. If you absolutely need coverage for work or an event, keep it minimal, keep tools clean, and remove it gently that night.

Days 3 to 7: the “actives break” that keeps results on track

This is the week where people get tempted to do too much because their skin looks better. I get it. I’ve had clients tell me their skin was “glowing” after a session, and that’s the moment you want to protect, not challenge.

For 3 to 7 days, pause these: retinoids, glycolic or lactic acid, salicylic acid, prescription-strength vitamin C, scrubs, and exfoliating brushes. Also skip new products that you’ve never used before. New is exciting, but new can also be irritating.

If you’re peeling, flaking, or feeling dry

Don’t pick. Don’t “buff it off.” Keep cleansing gentle and layer a richer moisturizer as needed. Hartford’s fall air and indoor heating can make dryness show up fast, especially if you commute and spend your day in heated offices. A humidifier at night helps more than most people expect.

Post-facial products to avoid, and what I like instead

Your Complete Skin Journey Program is built around your home routine, so product choices matter. I’m not interested in pushing you to buy random extras. I’m interested in your skin behaving well week after week.

Cleanser: mild and non-exfoliating

Look for fragrance-free and gentle. If your face feels “squeaky, ” it’s usually too stripping right after a facial.

Moisturizer: barrier support first

Go for a soothing moisturizer that helps reduce tightness. If you’re dry, layer a richer cream at night for the first week.

SPF: non-negotiable, every morning

Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. Mineral formulas are often a great choice for sensitive skin, especially in the days right after treatment.

And please don’t jump back into strong actives just because your skin “feels fine” on day two. Bring them back slowly and only if your skin is calm. If you’re in the program, that’s exactly what my check-ins are for.

When to reach out to me (and when to stop googling)

A little pinkness, mild tightness, or a “warm” feeling can be normal right after a facial. What I don’t want is you self-treating something that needs a quick adjustment. If you’re dealing with excessive redness, blistering, or peeling that feels intense or keeps getting worse, let me know before you try to fix it at home.

If you’re local to Hartford, West Hartford, East Hartford, Wethersfield, Newington, or Manchester, follow-ups are easy to coordinate. And if you’re not local, this program is virtual, so you still get priority support for routine-related questions throughout your 3 months.

If you’re new, you’ll probably like what to expect for your first Complete Skin Journey visit. If you’re deep in routine building, I also recommend Virtual Skin Consultations and routine planning. And for acne that refuses to budge, my approach to stubborn acne in the Complete Skin Journey is a good read.
