Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about DERMAPLANNING.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation using a sterile surgical scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and vellus hair. It smooths texture, brightens complexion, and improves product penetration. Performed by licensed estheticians, results are immediate with minimal downtime.

DERMAPLANNING suits most skin types and tones, but isn't right for active acne, open lesions, or certain inflammatory conditions. A consultation will determine suitability and any necessary precautions for sensitive or reactive skin prior to treatment.

A full DERMAPLANNING appointment at FACIALS BY VANESSA includes consultation, cleansing, treatment, and finishing products and typically lasts 30–45 minutes. The dermaplaning step itself generally takes about 15–30 minutes depending on skin needs.

Dermaplaning improves texture and can soften the appearance of superficial acne scars, but it won't erase deep scarring alone. For pronounced scars, we recommend combining dermaplaning with peels, microneedling, or laser treatments for better long-term results.

For most clients we recommend DERMAPLANNING every 4–6 weeks to coincide with the skin's natural renewal cycle. Regular sessions maintain smooth texture, remove recurring vellus hair, and maximize benefits from your topical skincare products.

Downtime after DERMAPLANNING is minimal; you may experience slight redness or sensitivity for 24–48 hours. Avoid sun exposure, harsh exfoliants, and retinoids for a few days. Use gentle cleansers, hydrating serums, and broad-spectrum SPF as directed.
